Bob Dorsey was born and raised in upstate, N.Y. and graduated with a BFA in Painting from the Rochester Institute of Technology and an MFA in Illustration from Syracuse University. He also attended the famous Illustrators Workshop in NYC.

He started his career as a staff illustrator for the American Greeting Card Company and later for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.

He has had a successful freelance Illustration business since 1982. His work has appeared in many books, magazines, and advertising campaigns. He has created art for many national and international clients including Coors Brewing Co., Xerox, Pepsi, Time Inc., General Electric, PGA of America, Citibank, Comcast, Mattel, Dupont, Bristol Labs, American Heart Association, Disney Press, Doubleday Books, Dell Publishing, Houghton Mifflin and countless others. He is well known for the numerous portraits that he has completed for the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY as well as for the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.

Dorsey’s work has been represented in exhibitions throughout the country including the Society of Illustrators Annual Exhibit in New York City. 

In recent years he has been moving into a new phase of his career where he is concentrating on more personal Fine Art Painting, Plein Air painting, and sculpture projects while focusing on gallery work.

Bob currently lives in the city of Rochester, N.Y. and he is a Full Professor in the School of Art at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
